Chance Robert Watley, four months old, died unexpectedly Thursday, August 26, 2010.
Chance is survived by his parents, Scott and Amy Watley; his beloved “Sissy”, Lainey Watley; his grandparents, Robert and Tina Ratliff; Bud and Jackie Espenship all of Lake City and Buddy and Laura Watley of Live Oak, Florida. His great-grand mothers, Alma Jordan and Wanda Green both of Lake City also survive.
Mrs. Thelma DuBose Bray, 81, of Lake City, passed away Tuesday evening, August 24, 2010, at Haven Hospice following an extended illness.
A native of Glenwood, Alabama, Mrs. Bray was the daughter of the late Homer and Edna DuBose. She was a member of the 1947 graduating class of Luverne High School in Luverne, Alabama, and also an accounting graduate of the Massey Business College located in Montgomery, Alabama.
She married James Bray in 1949, and together they moved to Lake City in 1950 from Homestead, Florida.
Mrs. Versie Carol Gullett, 89, of Lake City, died late Sunday evening, August 22, 2010, at the Lake City Medical Center E.R. following a brief illness.
A native of Sawyersville, Kentucky, Mrs. Gullett had been a resident of Lake City for the past seven years having lived in Pompano Beach for many years and in Ohio prior to relocating to Lake City.
Mr. Walter Thomas Hendrix, 69, of Lake City, passed away on Saturday morning August 21, 2010 in the Haven Hospice of the Suwannee Valley.
Tom was born on December 27, 1940 in Lake City, Florida, to the late Walter and Lula Mae Witt Hendrix Gillen.
He attended William and Mary College, Auburn University and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi. He retired from the U.S. Federal Government in 1999 and lived and worked in Atlanta, Georgia for many years.
Mrs. Lola Rhymer Norris, 92, of Lake City, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday afternoon August 20, 2010, in the Haven Hospice of the Suwannee Valley.
Mrs. Norris was a lifelong resident of Columbia County. She was born at Benton, a turpentine settlement in the Northern area of the County, on January 2, 1918 to the late Raymond & Organ Robinson Rhymer.
Mrs. Norris met and married her late husband of fifty-six years, Davis Norris and together they had seven children. Mrs. Norris was a homemaker and very much enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking and especially spending time with her family.
Mrs. Patricia Louise Cardinal, 73, of Lake City, died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at her residence.
A native of Edwardsport, Indiana, Mrs. Cardinal had been a resident of Lake City since 1982 having moved here from Miami, Florida. Mrs. Cardinal had worked as a retail sales clerk for several different super markets prior to retiring.
She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed crocheting and spending her spare time with her grandson, William “Bird” Cardinal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Cardinal Sr. and her son Robert Lee Cardinal, Jr.
Mrs. Algenia T. Vajda, 88, of Cheyenne, Wyoming died July 28, 2010 at her home in Cheyenne. She was born on December 16, 1921 in Mulberry, Florida a daughter of the late Lonnie George & Inez Esther Cox Crews.
Mrs Vajda married Steven Vajda on January 28, 1943, in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
She lived in Lake City until moving to Cheyenne in 1982.
Mrs. Eva Mobley Griffitts, 96, of Lake City, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 6, 2010 in the Health Center of Lake City following an extended illness. A native of Martin County, North Carolina, Mrs. Griffitts was the daughter of the late Louis & Effie Estelle Roberson Mobley.
She had been a resident of Lake City since 1940 having moved here from Raleigh, North Carolina. Mrs. Griffitts attended and graduated from the State Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh and the Medical College of Virginia.
She worked for thirty years as a registered nurse with the V.A. Medical Center here in Lake City. Mrs. Griffitts was very active in the community until her ill health. She was a past member of the Lake City Garden Club, the Woman’s Club, the Business & Professional Women’s Club, the A.A.R.P., the Florida Nurses Association and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She also served on the Lake Shore Hospital Auxiliary for twenty-two years.
Mr. Nicholas “Nick” James Nash, 21, of Lake City, died unexpectedly Friday, July 23, 2010. A lifelong resident of Lake City Nick was the son of James Alan Nash and Kim Williams Bispham.
Nick was educated in the Columbia County School System and was currently attending Florida Gateway College here in Lake City.
He was a Florida “Gator” football fan and loved fishing and reading. Nick will forever be remembered as a “sweet heart” of a person.
